One search bar for everything!

Barb and I are excited to share with you our trial for a product that makes locating credible sources for research projects easier for students. We appreciate any feedback you have. The product, EBSCO Discovery Service, allows students to search for sources from our building catalogs and most of our databases using a single search bar. Check it out (see below for login information).

A few notes:
  • Our trial has the Lakes “look.” Sorry, Antioch colleagues! However, since we share most of our databases, you will be able to see similar search results no matter the building where you work. This is only a trial, so if we decide to pursue this service, Antioch would have its own EDS and its own “look.” Additionally, at that time users would be able to view books from the schools’ catalogs; those are not included in the trial.
  • Not all of the databases are represented in EDS. There are reasons for that, which we’re willing to share if you ask. Even so, we would work with EBSCO to offer easy access to those missing databases while students are within the EDS interface.
  • When you search for a subject, say “Shakespeare,” the top result typically will be an encyclopedia-type entry providing an overview of the subject. Like Wikipedia, the entry links out to related articles about more specific aspects of the subject.
  • All of the normal EBSCO functions are available in EDS, including citation tools, the ability to add notes, advanced search options, the ability to listen to an article as it is read, filter options, and more.

To view how other area schools are using the product, visit the links below:

Please spend ten minutes touring EDS and let us know what you think. Feel free to share this resource with students, too, as they work on their research projects.

I was also thinking over it that it will be great to use one search bar without any confusion. I am happy to know that the writer is also thinking the same and finally have made it. This will not disturb the blogger in searching for anything he want.
