Sequoits Read
The main mission of the ILC is to promote reading for fun. That's what Sequoits Read is all about! Check out a few of the programs and events we organize.
Abe Lincoln Book Contest
The Abraham Lincoln Award is awarded annually to the author of the book voted as most outstanding by participating students in grades nine through twelve in Illinois. The award is sponsored by the Association of School Library Educators (AISLE) and is designed to encourage high school students to read for personal satisfaction and become familiar with authors of young adult and adult books. Students must read or listen to at least 4 of the 20 titles to be eligible to vote. Participants will be able to participate in a book talk/pizza party, receive an individual Read poster, and be awarded with incentives and prizes. Interested students may contact Mrs. Mason or register online.
ILC ReadER Hall of Fame
In 2015, we introduced this program to our readers. To be eligible, students must read all of the Abraham Lincoln Readers' Choice Award nominees by the State of Illinois, provide responses to a series of questions related to the book, and vote for their favorite one in the spring. Participants will be eligible for inclusion on our Information and Learning Center's Reader Hall of Fame plaque, will receive an individual/group Read poster, be able to participate in a book talk/pizza party, and be awarded with incentives and prizes throughout the contest. Interested students may contact Mrs. Mason or register online.
reading contests
We often hold school-wide reading contests. Sometimes it's Battle of the Books. Sometimes, it's Pageapalooza. Check your school email for information.
BOOK STORE--LOOK AND FEEL
Have you always liked the convenience of shopping at a book store because it was easy to find the things you liked to read? Over the past few years, we organized our book collection by genre (French word for category). Our goal was to make it easier for students and staff to find a book that interests them. If you need to find a book for your Civil War project, you can go to the War section. If you want to find a new book to read, consider browsing the Fantasy or Romance sections. Not sure what to read? Just browse our stacks as you would a regular book store. We're sure you'll find something you like to read. Or, contact an ILC staff member for assistance.
