Computing Careers = Great Paying Jobs

Are you interested in a career that utilizes your creativity and problem solving skills? Do you think you have what it takes to create technology? Would you like to find a career that offers plenty of openings, career growth and great wages?  

​In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, the ILC hosted an Hour of Code Maker Monday event. This global movement is designed to expose students to basic computer science principles. According to Hour of Code, “Computing occupations are the fastest-growing, best paying, and now the largest sector of all new wages in the US.”

This is really an exciting time to be entering the computing field as the number of job openings exceed the number of graduates! Plus, the salaries are great too. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, last year’s salaries for the different computing careers range from $52,810 to $139,220! 

There are three ways you can get started on your coding career.

• Contact your school counselor to find out about the courses you can take in high school.

• Identify potential colleges that offer computer science programs using the school’s Naviance program.
• Learn on your own by using the free coding tutorials on the Makerspace Coding LibGuide.
